Hurricane Irene passed us by Friday some 275 to 300 miles off shore – and rather gently she let us know here on Jekyll Island she was passing us headed to the north. These photos along with the video are a few of my favorites out of over 800 images taken late Friday afternoon.
This is a favorite spot for us – just a short boardwalk over the dunes and 10 feet down the steps to 50 to 60 yards of sand – not today though -no sandbar – no going down the steps. Steve and I stood on the boardwalk as the huge swells came rushing towards us spraying us over and over – we could have walked away – but the smell and taste of the salty air held us for quiet sometime.
Someone left a comment on my video on YouTube – “Something so beautiful with such destructive powers” – and it was and always is!
